Homework
Parents and students in the fifth grade
should expect 50 to 60 minutes of homework each night. If a student doesn't bring
home any homework at night, or has finished the day's homework we recommend that he/she work on their spelling words, math
facts, or independent reading for the 40 minutes. This helps keep the kids in
a regular routine of studying and doing their homework. If you find that homework
is taking a lot longer than the 60 minutes, please contact your child's teacher.
Late Work
Late work can add up fast. The first time a child forgets to do an assignment a warning will be given.
In the teacher/student conference about that late work it will be decided when the assignment will be due. If the assignment is not turned in on that date, then that will be considered as missed assignment as result
in a failing grade for that assignment.
Make-up
Work
If your child is sick or absent, the amount
of time they will have to finish their work will depend on the length of the absence.
If your child misses 2 days of school, they will have 2 days to complete their work.
If they miss 4 days, they will have 4 days to complete their work.
Vacations
Many times students miss school for
vacations or planned longer absences. In the event that you know your child is
going to miss some days for this reason, please know that we will give the homework when your child returns. No homework will be given out before the absence.
